1864 - November 19, 1957 Retired Merchant Succumbs at age 93 He was born Dec. 8, 1863, in Catlin, the son of George Wilson Tilton and Lizzie Albright Wilson. When he was 20, his father sent him to Fairmount to manage a general store, which he had purchased. He operated that store continuously until his retirement in 1954, using the name of G. Wilse Tilton and Son. Surviving are two sister, Mrs. Elsie V. McGregor and Mrs. Bertie V. Catlett, both now residing at the Wolford Hotel; four children, Claude E. Tilton of Danville, Mrs E. F. (Nina V.) Reese of Danville, Mrs. E.E. (Julia E.) Cast, of Danville, and Mrs David D. (Edith R.) Aiken, of Des Moines, Iowa. His wife, Jeanette L. Reese Tilton died in 1928 and a son Walter J. Tilton died in 1918. There are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren surviving. The Baptist Church in Fairmount occupied a large place in Mr. Tilton’s life. He served as chairman of the building committee when the present building was erected. He also served the church as a deacon, trustee, treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Funeral service will be at 2 p. m. Thursday in the Fairmount Baptist church. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, of which he was the trustee for many years.
